2. Aug 18, 2011. #13. try alternator bearings. use a multimeter across the battery, should be around 14V. mine was whining also and needed a new alternator. it persevered for about a week and was only just about keeping 12V in the battery, then it eventually died. if it isnt charging at 14V then its alternator.
55. Aug 2, 2014. #1. Grande Punto 1.3 Multijet 90. I have just fitted a new water pump, tensioner and alternator along with a new accessory belt to solve a noise which was being caused by a seized clutch on the old alternator pulley. Now I have a another new noise, the alternator screeches when under load for example when the headlights or rear
Hi all! I have been looking around the forum for this topic, and although I have found some similar problems, I cannot seem to find the exact scenario as mine. Recently I installed a Hertz 25.3 600W subwoofer running with a JBL GTO 225W amplifier. Prior to the installation, I had no problems
1. Battery Capacity Diminished. Far and away the number one reason that your Punto won’t start in the cold is the battery. A battery has two different ratings, cranking amps and cold cranking amps. Cold cranking amps are the batteries ability to start turn the engine over when it is cold. Battery capacity diminishes with time and use.
hi Sam , and welcome, Firstly sounds like you're looking after your GP , which is ALWAYS a wise move, the alternator= you can get this checked REALLY simply, put a volt meter on the battery , should read @ 12.5 Volts, start engine , then check the battery voltage again = SHOULD be @ 14.4Volts, if it's less than 14 V you've got a charging issue somewhere.. the alternators ARE prone to being
Hey guys, I was hoping you guys could help diagnose problems with my car. Basically, here are the problems I am facing:- Whining Alternator - The alternator has been making a whining noise for a short while now but seems to be getting more apparent over time. A mechanic said it will be the
As for going flat and then leaving it overnight = Dead battery. as when there "low at first" leaving them 2hrs + and the battery ""relax's"" and have enough umph again to JUST turn the engine over. Once Alternator is running it'll start to slowly recharge battery (idle speed isn't enough a good drive is tho) ziggy.

Get the alternator checked with a Multimeter - at 20V setting, the multimeter should read between 13 to 14v on the terminals with engine running, if OK this would rule out any issues with the alternator. If everything else is Ok and the issue is the heavy steering only without power, and the battery light is on in the cluster, I would suspect 1. Jan 4, 2010. #1. Hi, Had an interesting problem this morning, my Grande Punto 1.2 had not been used for a few days, started OK, but soon clouds of smoke from the engine bay and into the car. Stopped it and found the Alternator belt burnt out and broken, bits of black stuff everywhere. Further investigation found the alternator siezed solid. Sun 17 Jun 2012 23:45. fiat punto - fiat punto steering problem - Big John. The power steering is probably not working "because" the battery light is not on. The electric steering uses a lot of electricity so if the cars ECU "thinks" the charging system is up the shoot I think the car would start but without electric assistance. Re: Re: grande 1.2 8v alternator uditheking said: hello, i want to upgrade my alternator to a stronger one. is there any alternator that would fit my grande? any alfa romeo / punto evo / any other fiat that has a stronger alternator that would fit the grande 1.2 8v ? i am looking for a 120a + alternator, the stronger the better. had the alternator and alternator belt change and got the car back same day. on my journey out that evening stopped at petrol station filled up, started engine and battery light was on and no power steering. drove a few miles straight back to the garage and left the car with them to have a look. the mechanic started the car and battery light I have a 2006 GP Sport 1.9 Multijet 130. Last week the alternator broke down, the local dealer claims that he spend 3.5 hours on replacing this with a referb version. According to the Fiat repair lists this should be done within the hour :bang: Has anyone done this repair? Is it indeed over I would suggest more likely a problem with the alternator bearings, mine started like this at around 40K. Forums New posts Featured threads Search forums Members list
