Your BMW puts such high demands on its electrical system that it requires a high tech battery that is fragile to some driving habits. Change both batteries and tried again, still nothing. However, I found the solution (in the UK at least anyway). Any new 2032 sized batteries in the UK come with a warning sticker about swallowing. If this sticker isn't taken off if blocks the connection inside the key. Removed the warning stickers on each battery and both keys now work. Simple A battery can be so dead that even a jump won't work. especially if a cell dies. It simply cannot even pass enough current to start. Since we are close in mileage, and have the same model of car, and my car gave me a low battery warning once, I might just decide to go ahead and replace that battery, even if it does read OK.
